I've paid for every type of haircut you can imagine in city of Boston and have taken away one immutable fact from my experiences: price is a poor indicator a stylist's quality. Andy's haircuts are consistently better than those I got at G2O on Newbury St. I even had a Keurig while I waited (something else G2O didn't do). 5/7/2012 Mary A. Norton, MA ***** STARS Let me start with saying that I have been getting Brazilian waxes for many years. My usual lady started a family and left the business three years ago. The next year I tried a number of different spas, all with horrible experiences. I had actually given up on waxing two years ago but then when I saw the living social coupon I figured it was worth a shot for the price. I can't say enough good things about Joan. She is very experienced in hair removal and very thorough. She has been doing this for over 30 years! She did work in smaller patches, which some people might not like because let's face it waxing is no stroll in the park, but I was very pleased with the results. The few strands that did not come with the wax she tweezed out. I was very pleased with her thoroughness, experience, and the overall care I was given. He knows how to give any girl an amazing cut that will style well and flatter her face. I actually found him by stopping a girl on the street with a great haircut and asking her who cut her hair. I would not see anyone else if I was going to cut my hair - especially short styles. The Salon could improve in the way they treat you and talk to you. I also do miss head massages in the wash. 5/24/2012 Katie F. Waltham, MA **** STARS I'm reading through the recent reviews and am shocked at the bad ones. I went today and had a great experience. I bought the Living Social and made my appointment easily yesterday. I met with Joan and she was great, chatty, very professional. She got all my ingrown hairs and I had minimal pain, if you wax you know how awful some experiences can be. The salon itself was very nice, but I will leave off one star because I do think the waxing room could be a little cleaner. And I would love if you could use some newer waxes made for people with sensitive skin like myself. It worries me a little when I walk in and see the pot of wax open and dripping down the sides of the container. The guy at the front desk was super nice too, wasn't sure if he was the manager. 9/20/2012 Carmen F. ***** STARS I gave FIVE STARTS TO MILANO SALON!!!!!!!! Milano Salon is a very up scale hair salon in the area of Allston-Brighton with great prices. They gave me excellent services. The whole staff is very friendly. They did not rush me and it was very relax indeed. They offered me something to drink right at the beginning. I got green tea. That was a nice VIP touch indeed. The music was right and the decoration is very modern. They made me feel like a movie start!! I found Milano Salon in the internet. I was looking desperate for a hair color specialist. I went to a hair salon before where I paid a lot money and I had the most traumatic hair experience ever. I got the orange color disaster at the wrong hair cut on top of that. I was traumatized to say the least. I needed an URGENT CORRECTION FOR EVERYTHING!! I took my time to search for the best hair color stylist in Allston/Brighton and AndyTkan in Milano Salon came in the top ten best hair salon. I read that Andy Tkan was an excellent heir color specialist. I stopped my search and I called for an appointment right away. He was booked but the staff was very kind and she helped to find the right time for me. She even called me a day before to remind me. I love that too. Andy Tkan, Master Stylist/Colorist was the best indeed. He was the master in every thing. He understood me from the beginning. And he delivered the best. He gave the chocolate color with caramel highlights and the best movie start's bob hair cut. I was amazed to see my self again BEAUTIFUL and SLEEK and CHIC!!!! A COMPLETE MAKE OVER EVER!!!! Andy took his time to explain to me how to take care of my hair. I have a lot of hair and it is very frizzy. My hair is not easy to work .I knew I was in the right hands with him. I felt confident. He even gave me information of the keratine hair treatment and I am very interested. He said this treatment do not damage the hair. I am looking to get it done very soon. The price is right too. I am so excited!! The staff is the best. The lady that washed my hair did a great job too. She took her time to wash and massage my hair gently. She was very nice and friendly too. I am from Venezuela and we like the best!! Thanks to all staff and you guys rocks!!! I want to thanks each one of you. You really are professional and you know how to make someone feel like a movie star!!!! Thanks to Andy for rescuing me and making me feel young and beautiful again!! I've been going for five years and have never had a haircut that was less than perfect. I had never gone somewhere this nice for a haircut until I got engaged, and I could never go back now. I used to wear a hat for a week after haircuts with whatever barber I could find, and even some that were more pricey. Andy's prices are fair and he is meticulous. 10/3/2012 Claire R. Somerville, MA *****STARS Joan's waxes are the best in town! I originally found her through a Living Social coupon over a year ago and have been going back ever since. She is a true professional at what she does. Joan does a great job of making the experience as comfortable as possible. She has carefully selected each product she uses (wax, strips, lotion...everything!). You won't find Joan using cheap wax or strips like the other salons--this makes a big difference for the pain factor. Honestly, every time I leave Milano, I am shocked at how painless the experience was. (And this coming from a girl whose first waxing experience involved loud yelps of pain.) I cannot recommend Joan more. If you've been to a zillion salons over the years like me, or are thinking of trying wax for the first time...give your business to Joan. Prior to Andy, I was never able to find a hair stylist that could get my hair (curly and VERY thick) right. They would color it in a way that wouldn't accent my curls and cut my hair to make my look like a poodle. Not cute. I took a chance on going to Andy from outstanding Yelp reviews and was instantly hooked. The salon is adorable and the staff is always friendly and helpful. My hair was three different colors and Andy magically turned me into a beautiful blonde for the first time, and I've stayed blonde since! I've been growing my hair out since I've gone to him and he keeps it healthy and when I'm ready for a trim he never cuts my hair too much (always was a problem with other hair stylists). During one of my visits I was going through a "I want my hair ultra short and partially shaved" phase and thankfully Andy talked me out of it and I could never, ever thank him enough! He's completely honest with his clients but is willing to do anything that you want. Aside from coloring and cutting my hair, Andy is a master at styling my hair. Every blow dry is gorgeous, which again is VERY hard to find someone who will take the time to blow it out, rather than using a straightener. Before a fashion show I hosted, I called Andy and asked if he could somehow pin my hair up into a mohawk, without any pictures! He did it, effortlessly, and the entire night I had more people commenting on my hair than the actual clothing line!! I will absolutely stay going to Andy and always recommend anyone looking for a hair stylist to him and his salon. Even when I lived in NH for a year, I still took the trip to Allston to see Andy, because he is more than worth it! I got an amazing cut by Osvaldo, he was great and he gives an AMAZING wash. I go to school and live near Newbury st. this salon is just as high fashion as all the salons in my area... but it is not so expensive and honestly... this is the best cut Ive got since Ive lived in Boston... I say move over Newbury Milano Salon is about to kick you on to your booty!! I am new to the Allston /Brighton area and was looking for a new hairstylist. I tried out Milano Salon and I loved loved loved it!!! I had my hair done by Osvaldo and it honestly has never looked better!!!! All of the staff were very welcoming and well educated. The receptionist was so nice, and I felt very at home. I was offered coffee and Tea.... a great plus to an already amazing deal.
